How Often Should Men Get a Haircut?

The honest answer is: it depends on your cut. A tight skin fade and a longer textured crop age completely differently. Here is a simple guide based on the styles we cut most at Barberhood in JVC.

Skin fades and short tapers: every 2–3 weeks

The sharper the fade, the faster it loses its edge. A skin fade looks its best for about two weeks before the gradient starts to grow out and the lines soften. If you want to always look fresh, book every two to three weeks.

Short all-over and clipper cuts: every 3–4 weeks

A clean clipper cut without a dramatic fade holds its shape a little longer. Three to four weeks keeps it tidy without feeling like a chore.

Longer and textured cuts: every 5–8 weeks

Length is more forgiving. A longer cut can go five to eight weeks, though a quick tidy of the neck and around the ears in between keeps it looking intentional rather than overgrown.

How to tell it is time

When your fade has a visible line where it has grown out, when your hair stops sitting the way it did after your last cut, or when styling takes longer than it used to — that is the chair calling. Booking a standing appointment every few weeks is the easiest way to never think about it.

Not sure what suits your hair and routine? Tell your barber how much time you want to spend styling, and we will recommend a cut and a schedule that fits.
